Enjoy the quietness, nature and people

Campsite “De Wildhoeve” is located on the fringe of Royal Forestry “Het Loo”, surrounded by wildlife and natural beauty. The pictures speak for themselves ……

“Het Loo” Royal Forestry

Campsite “De Wildhoeve” borders The Royal Forestry “Het Loo”. Crown Estate “Het Loo” is located west of Apeldoorn and consists of the Palace park and the Royal Forestry. Vast areas of woods and moors predominate the landscape. The area has been connected with the Royal House of Orange-Nassau for over 300 years. The bond with the Orange family formed Crown Estate “Het Loo” into what it is now: An estate of almost 40 square miles with a rich cultural history, great biological diversity and much natural beauty. This gives Crown Estate “Het Loo” its unique position at the Veluwe and in the Netherlands.

Great to get on your bike

and ride into the woods. To set off on your own and explore the most beautiful spots is a unique experience. The chance of seeing wild animals is best early in the morning or at the start of the evening.

Wandering through the woods

for a short or long walk. It’s lovely to walk for hours through the Royal Forestry “Het Loo”, hardly seeing any other people.

The badger is

one of the many natural neighbours of Campsite “De Wildhoeve”. He or she wanders through the woods and fields and sometimes visits our campsite.

The pleasant hamlet of Gortel

is completely surrounded by nature area “Royal Forestry Het Loo”. The oak tree copses show very old stubs. The forest is rich in epiphytic moss (Epiphites are plants that live on trees).

Celtic fields and burial mounds in the Crown Estate

Approximately 60 burial mounds lie in the Crown Estate and some Celtic Fields. Opposite “De Wildhoeve” you can find a number burial mounds of nomadic tribes belonging to the culture of

“Klokbekers” (Bell beakers). The Celtic Fields are along the ‘Gortelseweg’ between Vaassen and Gortel.

A walk called ‘de Nachtbraker’ takes you through Gortel and along the Celtic Fields. Worthwhile to explore Gortel on foot!

Wildlife park “t Aardhuis”

In 1861 King William III had a hunting chalet built in the heart of an area of great natural beauty on the highest point of “de Veluwe”. Many traces of this period in the royal history can be found here. If you want to see animals in their natural habitat, this is the right place to be.

  • Europe’s largest sculpture garden
  • The Museonder, an underground museum focusing on the geology and biology of the Veluwe
